Kelly saw this tonight and shared it with me. As a father, I was moved to tears. What a wonderful & powerful poem. It is such a fresh perspective on the characters we’ve all heard of but the stories that have been left untold. It truly is a hidden gem and a new classic for our Christmas season.
I hope you enjoy this simple little Gift as much as we did.
I loose things. No matter how organized I try to be, stuff just disappears when it’s in my possession. I can’t explain it, my wife doesn’t understand it, and I fear I’ve passed it on to my sons…but it’s a fact, I loose things. But sometimes, what I’ve lost I can never get back, and I miss it, a lot.
“We miss you Belle”
When I think of spiritual mentors, I usually picture someone older. Someone wiser than me. Someone who has lived and learned from a life of faith. And usually this image of the sages of the faith are pastors, church elders, or just good Godly men my grandpa’s age.
But today I saw a very different picture of spiritual leadership……and I was inspired and encouraged like few other times in my life.
“That blew me away…”, “I was totally shocked…”, “I never expected anything…” These are all common ways I’ve heard others express what it feels like to be surprised. I’ve even experienced a really good surprise birthday party my wife threw for me. But no matter how you try to sum up that feeling of exhilaration you get from a real surprise, it’s still hard to truly describe what it feels like to get a surprise Gift.
That’s what happened to Mama Kelly today, and she never saw it coming.
A Gift for you…
Being a guy is tough. We’re supposed to be the strong ones. We don’t show weakness, we’re supposed to have the answers, and we can never….never cry. So when we guys are hurting, confused or need to talk, its tough to find someone to talk to. Someone to connect with. Another…guy….
In our family, life moves by a cycle of firsts. First day of summer, first day of duck season, first day waking up without a cat sleeping on my face. Today was Rylan’s “First day of school……Kiddie City.”
This little piggy is TOO CUTE!
First Day of Schoooooool!
Tonight something unexpected and very special happened when we shared our Gifts with each other. Each of us identified a Gift from God that warmed our hearts and made us smile. A Gift that reminded us of God’s unending love for us. But after we shared, Mama suggested that Reid get out his Literature book and read us the story for the week. Seriously? Kelly…what are you thinking?
