We had our first snow day for the year. What a Gift!
What do you do when the weather gives you and unexpected day off? Share it with us here.
There is something remarkable about communicating with another individual. Something inside us leaps with excitement when another soul connects with ours. I remember getting letters (the old fashioned way) from my girlfriend, now wife, during my college years. Each week I would stop by the mailbox and look for the letter covered with hearts and XOXOs that would signal another opportunity to communicate with the one I loved so far away.
Some days we just need a break from the realities of life. Some days we just need to break free from the stress of the day. Some days we just need to throw productivity out the window, chuck the “honey-do” list and forget about the deadlines.
Some days we just need a nap.
There is something a little frighting about being suspended from a thin cable wire high above the ground, hurling from one tree to another at a high rate of speed, seemingly out of control. And even though you might be secured in a harness, there is still this incredible sense of danger which creates a rush of adrenaline that is exhilarating. This feeling of tempting fate, cheating injury and defying death is a phenomenon that so many in our culture are addicted to. My boys are no exception.
This morning I thought it would be nice to share a Gift from one of our cats. This is sulley…..doing what he does best.
Working in a stressful environment can take a toll. It’s tough on our physical bodies and our emotional health. Day in and day out, the pace is fast, the expectations are high and the workload can be overwhelming. It can stretch us to the limit. But, a small, well placed Gift from God can change all of that.
That was the case today.
Tonight something unexpected and very special happened when we shared our Gifts with each other. Each of us identified a Gift from God that warmed our hearts and made us smile. A Gift that reminded us of God’s unending love for us. But after we shared, Mama suggested that Reid get out his Literature book and read us the story for the week. Seriously? Kelly…what are you thinking?
Today was amazing. Kelly brought the boys over to me after school so she could do some grocery shopping…….I see you shaking your head….who in their right mind takes two boys grocery shopping?
When Reid got out of the car I noticed that he had something in his hands. Baseball cards! “Where did you get those?” I asked. “I won SPARKLE” he said. For those who don’t know, SPARKLE is a spelling game kids play at school. Reid struggles with spelling and for him to win this game was HUGE. He was stoked! And the baseball cards were pretty cool as well. I bet you can guess what his Gift was today. I was so proud of him.
For my Gift I shared a photo I took of the morning sun on my way to work. It was an amazing way to see God, to look into His face, and to remember He is always with us.
Today was our first set of gifts. We sat around the dinner table and talked about what happened during our day. When Mama brought out a card to write our Gifts on. Rylan looked at me and said “Dad…what is she doing?” I gave him some sage advice. “Be quiet and do as your mother says.”
